Biography

Commended for "matching the complexity of programmes with confidence and poise" (ClassikON), the Orix Duo is an avid chamber ensemble featuring cellist Yejin Choi and pianist Kevin Suherman.

Our Story

Korean cellist Yejin Choi and Indonesian pianist Kevin Suherman began collaborating in 2017, at the start of their postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Shortly after, the duo won the annual Wilfrid Parry Brahms Sonata Prize at the Academy, for their performance of the Sonata for Piano and Cello in E minor. The Orix Duo were also invited by the Delius Society to perform in Madingley Hall, University of Cambridge, as winners of the Delius Prize Competition, where they were praised for their “sense of architecture, elegance, and nuance”.

The Orix Duo are frequent guest artists for the Team of Pianists’ Classic Music in Historic Venues Concert Series, performing in distinguished venues across Melbourne such as the Labassa Mansion and Rippon Lea Estate. They most recently performed an acclaimed recital in St. John’s Anglican Church Camberwell, and will be guest artists of the newly formed Malvern East Chamber Music Festival later this year. Priorly, they were artists of Wigmore Hall’s For Crying Out Loud! Concert Series, and Bloomsbury Festival’s New Wave Lunchtime Concert Series, the latter in which included a programme inspired by the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing. The upcoming season will notably feature Beethoven’s complete works for piano and cello, to commemorate 250 years since the composer’s death.
